SMALL LEARNING COMMUNITIES

Freshman Academy
The Freshman Academy’s mission is to create a community of empowered learners that develop the attitude, knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a rigorous curriculum and graduate prepared to pursue higher educational opportunities and become lifelong learners and responsible participants in a democratic society.
The Freshman Academy uses a personalized approach to support students through their 9th grade year. By grouping all of our ninth graders together in cohorts and providing them with teachers and programs specifically devoted to their academic and personal success, we provide them a solid foundation from which to achieve their future goals.

Engineering and Environmental Science Academy
Students will learn to use the power of science and mathematics to improve the quality of life on earth. Our program will prepare students to succeed in whatever college or vocational program they choose to enter after high school. Students will work hard with others to build a strong foundation in math, science and communication skills. Students will participate in challenging, hands-on projects that will develop their ability to identify a problem in real life, research and design a solution to the problem, and then put the solution into action. Students will also explore a wide variety of careers that involve engineering and environmental science.

Business and Entrepreneurship Academy
Students will prepare for a career in business and get a head start on what it will be like in college. The BE academy offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that includes challenging integrated projects that will stimulate your critical thinking skills and career pathways in Business Management and Entrepreneurship. Students will be provided A to G college approved courses, hands on learning experiences, integrated lessons, elective classes, tutoring, mentoring, internships, and a caring faculty. Students will be challenged by a professional workplace atmosphere, high expectations and demanding teachers who will prepare you for college level work.

Arts, Entertainment and Media Academy
The AEM Academy will offer students the unique opportunity to enter the global conversation through self expression and new media. Students will receive a rigorous college-preparatory education, with full opportunities to take Advanced Placement courses and receive guidance through college entrance requirements. Courses are taught by skilled teachers who emphasize student accountability through student choice, organization, quality work and professional presentation. In addition to core curriculum, AEM offers and introduction to the fast-growing and exciting fields in the arts and new media. Students may choose a concentration in either Multimedia or Production and Managerial Arts. Ultimately, AEM students will have opportunities to apply knowledge beyond the classroom through community partnerships and internships.
